Applied Film Industries Company plc has been established as a media and consumables supplier since 1984, providing a broad range of I.T. products such as laser printer toner cartridges, ink jet printer cartridges, printer ribbons and office supplies.

In 1993 the company started to remanufacture laser printer toner cartridges and three years ago the remanufacture of ink jet printer cartridges. The company manufactures and supplies goods from it's factory and warehouses in Newcastle-under-Lyme, North Staffordshire.

In 1996 Applied Film Industries installed a Tensor Smart Card Time & Attendance and Access Control system at their Head Office in London. Dave Houghton, IT Manager said, “We looked at a few systems and choose Tensor because it used Smart Card technology and was the only system that handled Access Control and Employee Attendance. We like the system as it's really easy to use. Cardholders can keep the Smart Card in their wallet whilst they use it and the same card is used for Access Control and Time & Attendance”

In May 2003, Applied Film Industries moved to a new 50,000 sq ft distribution facility in Lymedale, Newcastle-under-Lyme where a next-day service delivery operation has been established. Again they installed a Tensor Time & Attendance and Access Control system for the 100 employees. The original system installed in London has been moved to their manufacturing site at Winpenny, a couple of miles away from the new distribution centre.

Dave Houghton says, “We still don’t use the system to its full capabilities but we are slowly asking it to do more and more. The Absence Planner is one feature we have found particularly useful”
