Coherent Optics Europe is a leading manufacturer of precision optical components with particular expertise in infra-red optics. The company first thought about installing a system to formalise their HR procedures, Health and Safety, Flexible Working and Access Control on numerous doors in May 2003. Their HR Manager, Oksana Heanes, was the main project leader. “We looked at three companies and decided on Tensor because the functionality and the cost of the system was excellent value for money” explained Oksana. They also liked the Tensor Smart Cards, which they thought were “easy to use” and were the simplest solution to clocking in and out they had seen.
When asked the main advantages of Tensor over their competitors, Oksana said, “ It did exactly what we wanted and the price was competitive, but not the cheapest”.
A Tensor WinTA Enterprise and Access Enterprise system using a sequel database was installed in August 2003. They experienced a few teething problems upon installation and also they had a problem with one of the locks on building 27. They did not experience any software installation problems. Oksana and colleague Mark Towning were trained at the Hail Weston Training Centre.
Coherent use the Tensor system for Time and Attendance, Access Control, Monitoring Absences, Health and Safety, and Management Reporting which goes through to the company's Board Meetings to discuss overtime and any other issues regarding human resources. Asked what she liked most about Tensor, Oksana said “the accuracy and visibility of the data so if problems do arise, say if overtime is done but not entitled, then the Manager and the employee have factual records”.
Coherent Optics are looking to extend the Tensor system, especially more Access Control. When asked if they would recommend Tensor to other companies? the answer was “Yes, we would recommend Tensor” and summing Tensor up in a few words Oksana said, “It is a good system and very good value for money”.
