Harvey (Manchester) Limited employ 60 people in a purpose built facility of over 60,000 sq. ft. on 3 acres of land on Oldham Street in Denton. Over the years the company has seen its business change from the traditional wood, metal and plastic patternmaking through all types of plastic mould tools and dies, to today's high technology aircraft tooling for carbon composites. To maintain a competitive lead in these fields Harvey have invested in new technology such as 5 axis CNC machine tools and powerful on site computer aided design and manufacturing systems. As part of this investment they purchased a Smart Card Time & Attendance and Access Control systems from Tensor in 2002. The system comprises Winta Lite Smart Card clocking system with Access Control and a hooter controller.

Production Manager, Michael Slack, explained, "Originally we replaced our punch clock with a MitreFinch mag-stripe card system, but this went wrong and was expensive to repair. This prompted us to install a Tensor Winta Lite system. Tensor use Smart Cards that don’t have to be removed from your wallet. Tensor is easy to use and inexpensive".

Michael went on to say they did have one problem when the Tensor system was initially installed, but Tensor sorted that out within the day and the system has worked fine ever since. The staff of Harvey went on a Training Course at Tensor’s Training Centre and they said the quality of the training was "very good" .

Michael was also asked if he had ever used the Tensor Help Desk? "Yes, an excellent service without having to pay over the odds" he exclaimed.

In conclusion Michael said "Tensor is a good system that’s easy to use. I like the Smart Cards. I can’t fault it, especially with the link to Access Control" . Asked if he would recommend Tensor to other companies?, Michael categorically said "Yes" .

To this end we are now at the forefront of CAD/CAM in tool making having 2, 3 and 5 dimensional surfacing and machining capability coupled with the ability to take information from our customers CAD/CAM systems. We also have tool design capability using the latest CAD software and have C.N.C. machining capacity up to 12m x 4m x 2m and C.N.C. co-ordinate measuring up to 5m x 2.5m x 2m.

Today the company is in a position to take on the largest of tooling contracts, possessing a full range of facilities from the initial design through manufacture and inspection to final installation. Our highly skilled workforce is experienced in aircraft jigs and fixtures, tooling for composite lay-up, compression and injection mould tools and master mould and pattern making. In 1993 Harvey (Manchester) Ltd became part of the world class Hyde Group Ltd and now forms one of the major C.N.C machining facilities.
