John Smedley has been manufacturing the worlds finest knitwear since 1784, combining the legacy of hand skills with modern technology. Still producing garments from its original factory in Lea Bridge, Derbyshire which spans over 13 Acres, it has many buildings some of which are over 200 years old. The buildings contain machinery to allow them to produce high quality woollen garments from spinning the raw wool to packing the final product.John Irving, the IT Manager at John Smedley, was given the task of finding a system that would record the Time and Attendance of their 427 employees and also tell them if an employee was on-site. They needed a system that could handle a geographically large site with many access points and also could handle over 25 shifts that they run.
John looked at many systems and chose Tensor because it's card reading was superior to any others available and it could handle a large site. "Swipe cards are not as fast" he said and John liked the speed of the Tensor Smart Cards. "Tensor Smart Cards are easy to use and allow a fast through-put of staff at the end of the shift" he explained, "The staff like the system as it so easy for them to use - just hold the Smart Card to the reader and go."
The Tensor WinTA system at John Smedley ' Head Office comprises 2 main clocking stations with a further 5 slave Smart Card readers to cover the outlying areas around there main site. Additional systems have been installed at their factories in Doncaster and Clay Cross, both using one main clocking station.
