Panasonic design, manufacture and distribute electrical products that are "ideas for life", ranging from products in the home, on the move or at work. They also make a large range of accessories.
Panasonic employ hundreds of thousands of people world-wide and about 425 at their site in Newport, Gwent.
In 2002, HR Manager, Sandra Connolly, was looking for a combined Time & Attendance, Access Control and Personnel system for their site in Wales.
She explained that they already had a system in place that was being removed from the market, so the support was also being taken away. Panasonic were offered a replacement product, but as this was not an improvement they looked for something more flexible.
Panasonic chose a Tensor WinTA Enterprise system because it had “some nice additional functionality” but also because Tensor were willing to work with Panasonic to customise the system to suit their needs.
Tensor installed the system in July 2003. There were no problems with the hardware installation but there were a number of issues that had to be resolved with the software, some of which required particular customisation of WinTA Enterprise for Panasonic.
Sandra and two other staff were trained in the use of the WinTA Enterprise system at the Tensor training facility in Hail Weston. “The quality of the training was good,” said Sandra, although there were several software modifications required by Panasonic, which were not complete at the time of the training so they were trained on the standard system.
Sandra explained that the system now installed handles Time and Attendance, Access Control, Fire Roll Call, Personnel, Numerous Custom Reports, Payroll Interfaces and an Automated Overtime Process. The objective being to create an Integrated Security System with the flexibility for report writing and other added functionality. Asked what she likes best about the Tensor WinTA Enterprise system, Sandra replied “system flexibility and price”.
Sandra feels Panasonic "nearly" use the WinTA Enterprise system to it's full potential, as she explained that the system now handles “all of Panasonic's Personnel Records, Time & Attendance, Holidays and Absence Planning; everything really, including Access Control.”
Asked how easy it is to use the Tensor system, Sandra said “Very” and the Tensor Smart Cards? “very easy”. When asked if she ever used the Tensor Fire Roll Call system, Sandra explained that Panasonic have regular drills and that there had been a number of incident s where the fire alarms have gone off. Asked what she thought of the Tensor Personnel system, Sandra replied “very good”.
“Very helpful” was how Sandra described the Tensor after sales support from the Help Desk and engineering support. She also went to explain how Panasonic were considering further software modifications in the areas of labour cost analysis and job pricing.
Asked what she liked most about Tensor, Sandra said “it's flexibility” and she said she would be happy to recommend Tensor to other companies but stressed the importance of getting any software modification specifications right.
Summing up Tensor in a few words Sandra concluded, “Tensor has great flexibility and the potential to create a customer specific system as well as a very good standard system.”.
