Pegler Ltd. is one of best known and respected manufacturers of plumbing, heating and engineering products in the world. Central to it's manufacturing process in Doncaster, Pegler has one of the largest brass foundries in Europe. Pegler is one of the largest employers in South Yorkshire with approximately 850 people at it's Doncaster factory, so when in 1992, Systems Analyst, Jon Free, was assigned the task of finding a new system to replace their existing punch-card clocking system, he researched the market to see what was on offer. 
'We needed a good Time & Attendance system that would also have an easy-to-use Fire Roll Call reporting feature and ability to expand into security Access Control' explained Jon. "We narrowed it down to 3 systems of which Tensor was one. We decided to go with the Tensor system because of the ease-of-use of the Smart Cards and the benefits the software."

Heath and Safety was a prime requirement as Pegler had many people working over a very large site. The site is operates 24 hours a day for 5 days a week and the employees work many different shifts patterns.

"We liked the overall feel of the Tensor WinTA system and the reporting software provided a simple and useful way for of calculating employees' hours for the payroll system. The system is very good for collating information about hours worked, absences and lateness." Jon remarked.

Exception reports are checked and authorised by the 30 Team Leaders each morning for the Personnel Department. There are also 10 other departments who check reports on a weekly basis. The Personnel Department undertakes final audit check and then processes the hours on the company's weekly payroll. Jon said "the system has saved us a lot of time'.

Pegler also use Tensor's WinTA system for Access Control. "Currently we have several Access Control points around the site protecting the computer room, main entrance and offices. The Access Control features are important and we will expanding this side of the system in the future." Explained Jon.

Staff from Pegler have been trained at Tensor's Training Workshop at Hail Weston and Jon has used the Help Desk in the past and found them 'efficient'.

Rounding up his view of Tensor, Jon said "The hardware and software stands up really well! This allows us not to worry about troubleshooting or maintaining it and enables us to be more productive.'
