Originally established in 1991, Index Books Ltd are one of the largest direct re-sellers of books and giftware in the UK. Around three years ago their Company Secretary, Jerry Beswick, and Deputy Managing Director, Tony Peel, were looking for a system that could check the punctuality of their staff and also record personnel and Health & Safety information.

One of the company's managers had used a Tensor Smart Card system with a previous employer and recommended Tensor to the management team. After seeing a demonstration of Tensor WinTA Lite and Personnel Lite, the company purchased a system from Tensor which was installed in March 2004.

“The demonstration showed how easy the Smart Card system was to use; and together with the features offered, and the price, it was impressive,” remarked Jerry. There were no problems with hardware installation and only a minor problem with the software installation which was “fixed quickly” .

Jerry Beswick and Tony Peel were trained at Tensor's Training Centre in Hail Weston, where they described the quality of the training as “very good, it made the system very easy to use”.

Index Books currently use the system for checking employee hours worked and Absence Planning (they REALLY like the Absence Planner) but feel they probably only use WinTA Lite to 75% of it’s full potential. Jerry thinks that the Tensor Personnel system is “very good” and he is increasing and extending its use.

Index Books have also used the Tensor Helpdesk and found their service to be “Excellent” .

When asked how Tensor could improve it's service to Index Books, Jerry said “We couldn't really ask for more!”

Index Books will be extending the Tensor system when they double the size of their warehouse and install Access Control at their new site at the end of the year. When asked if he would recommend Tensor to other companies, Jerry said “without hesitation” and summing up Tensor in a few words he said: “A quality system that is easy to use.”
