Robert Smith Steel Ltd, a Groupe Arcelor company, are steel stockholders and processors based in Merseyside. IT Manager, Peter Bradshaw, explained “We found Tensor via their website, which had an excellent layout, and it went on from there.” This was in September 2002 and after some investigation, Robert Smith Steel purchased a Tensor WinTA Lite system with an additional Smart Card clock. They use Smart Card badges for the operatives and Smart Key Fobs for the office staff.

The system was installed in November 2002 and it went in smoothly with no hardware or software problems. When asked what they now use the system for, three main areas were given,

· Attendance clocking in and out from the Warehouse and Stockyard

· Control of weekly hours

· EU Working Time Directive control

Asked what they like about the system? Peter said “Ease of use. Easy for employees to use, easy to set up employee profiles and working patterns”. Peter went on to say how impressed he was with the Tensor’s Smart Cards, “They’re excellent. Our environment is quiet dirty and the Tensor Smart Cards work, where mag stripes and bar codes would not.”

Peter Bradshaw has had to use the Tensor Helpdesk for both e-mail questions and also for telephone support. He found it “very good, no problems with response”.

Robert Smith Steel are currently considering expanding the Tensor system to include Fire Roll Call, Access Control for their lobby and also for Job Costing on their shop floor.

When asked ‘would you recommend Tensor to other companies?’ Peter Bradshaw said, “Yes most definitely”. Finally summing up Tensor in a few words he said, “Dealing with Tensor is very professional, reliable and their staff are friendly and easy to talk to”.
