| SBJ Group Secure With Tensor | Fri 24th February 2006 |
The SBJ Group are a UK domiciled "top ten" corporate insurance broker, administrator and employee benefit consultant. Their turnover is in excess of £56 million and the group has grown significantly over the last five years. Around 700 people work in the group with over 400 working at two sites within Central London.
In the autumn of 2000 Property Manager, Nigel Waddy, wanted to increase the general security of the buildings and also to improve the safety of the staff working within the buildings. After reviewing various systems available in the marketplace, Nigel decided to install a Tensor Access system because he "liked Tensor's Smart Cards ' much better than magnetic stripe cards".
Nigel considered the main advantage Tensor had over it's competitors was the speed of operation of Tensor Smart Cards and the fast throughput of people. He also liked the fact that Tensor designed, manufactured, installed and maintained the equipment.
Nigel thought that "although Tensor was not the cheapest system one could buy, the overall running costs of Tensor made it much more cost effective than some of its competitors."
A Tensor Access system was installed in 2001 with no problems encountered during the installation of either the hardware or software. "We have a sophisticated system where we manage everything remotely from our offices two miles away," explained Nigel.
Nigel Waddy and Carol Lamborn were trained at Tensor's training centre in Hail Weston. "Very good, we got plenty of direct help!" was how Nigel described the quality of the training. When asked if SBJ group used the Tensor system to it's full potential, Nigel smiled and said "Not at all, we use the system purely for Access Control even though Time and Attendance facilities are available to us."
What Nigel likes most about Tensor Access is "It's very flexible, easy to use and is low maintenance," and describing using Tensor Smart Cards he said "Slim like a credit card; can stay in a wallet, so they don't get lost or broken, unlike magnetic stripe cards that very often fail."
Nigel said he had not had cause to call the Tensor Helpdesk, but did say "In all our dealings with Tensor we have found them to be responsive, with good follow up."
SBJ group is looking to extend the Tensor Access system to another office in Central London, which will include access control on seven floors of a multi storey office block. Concluding the interview, Nigel's overall description of the system was "very robust and reliable" ' Would he recommend Tensor to other companies? "Yes" was the reply, and summing up Tensor in a few words he said "Tensor is a well structured and well managed organisation ' and it works well for us too!"
