SMART CARD WINTA SYSTEM INSTALLED AT SSL INTERNATIONAL(DERBY)

SSL International in Derby produce the Scholl range of foot care products. They are part of the worldwide SSL healthcare group and David Jarvis their Technical Manager was given the task of finding a Time and Attendance and Access Control system that would suit the needs of their factory.
David looked at over six different systems and finally decided on the Tensor WinTA Time & Attendance and Access Control system; partly on performance, partly because it combined attendance monitoring with access and partly on price. He also selected it because of personnel recommendation from an existing Tensor customer.

“On average we have around 160 employees at the factory. They find the Smart Card system fast and easy to use. After it was installed and we received our onsite training the system ran smoothly.” said David.
“The system has not given us any problems since it was installed “ and “We still don’t use the full capabilities of the Tensor system” were some of other comments David made.

Previously SSL had timed locks at the entrance so that employees could gain access to start their shifts. With the new system, employees with the correct security level for a particular time of day, use their Smart Cards to gain access to the site and also to clock in and out for their shifts.
Within the WinTA system, the main reception door is controlled by an intercom, which allows the receptionist to find out the identity of non-cardholders before allowing them access to the building.

A dedicated fire roll call printer located in Reception prints a roll call of those present in the building in the event of the fire alarm system being triggered.

As well as using their Smart Cards to gain entrance via reception or the staff entrance, employees of SSL use them for access to the offices, R&D and many other internal areas. An unobtrusive and easy-to-use way of dictating which employees are allowed into particular areas at given points in time throughout the day.

The clocking information is automatically processed in real-time so that managers can use it for strategic planning of human resources. At the end of the factory’s pay cycle a series of standard and customized reports are printed and the ‘hours worked’ information is passed to the company’s main payroll system.
