Hagemeyer Install Tensor
Hagemeyer is a value added business-to-business (B2B) distribution services group employing about 17,000 people worldwide. The group focuses on the markets of electrical materials, safety and other MRO (Maintenance Repair and Operations) products in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.
Nearly two years ago Operations Director, Matt Parsons, was looking for a system that would segregate access within their building and also provide time recording for the staff. After reviewing what was on offer in the marketplace, Matt chose to implement a Tensor system because “Tensor had an all-in-one solution and their Smart Cards were fast and effective”. Matt further explained to the Tensor reporter that the all-in-one approach of Tensor and the slickness of the software were key contributing factors in selecting a system from Tensor.
Tensor installed a WinTA Enterprise Smart Card based Time and Attendance and Access Control, including Fire Roll Call, in August 2005 at the Hagemeyer sites in Rothwell and a distribution centre in Milton Keynes. Around 200 people are employed at these two locations.
During the installation of the hardware a few problems regarding the suitability of door locks for UPVC doors and locations of some of the Push-to-Exit buttons occurred, but overall Matt Parsons was “impressed with the quality of the installation”. No problems were encountered during the software installation.
Although Matt feels Hagemeyer do not yet use WinTA Enterprise to it�s full potential he is confident they will as they roll out the system within the group. When asked what he liked most about Tensor he answered with a familiar reply “very easy to use” , and when asked what he thought of Tensor�s Smart Cards he said “Excellent, easier and more reliable than magnetic stripe or bar coded cards”.
Hagemeyer are currently looking at extending WinTA Enterprise to their other eighteen sites within the UK. When asked what he liked most about Tensor, Matt said “Generally the ease-of-use of the system but I particularly like how you can create and use the reporting tools within the application.”
Would Matt recommend Tensor to other companies? “Yes” was the answer and summing up Tensor in a few words Matt concluded, “all our dealings with Tensor have been very professional – a good company to do business with”.

Hagemeyer’s strategy for PPS is to provide its products and services to electrical contractors in the C&I market and to industrial users in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region (primarily Australia). The PPS division also provides value-added services, including procurement and inventory management, through the division’s Integrated Supply activities. Hagemeyer retains a leading market position in most of its markets.
