PFE decide on Tensor


Then PFE International were looking for a Time & Attendance system for their 3 factories in Loughton 7 years ago they thought they would have a difficult time finding a system that could cope with their
“awkward shift patterns”. PFE have over 400 employees working at the 3 factories which operate 24 / 7 to produce state-of-the-art Folder and Inserters machines. Employees are paid differing rates of overtime dependent on the shift pattern they work.

Richard Tunstall, the Finance Manager said “we needed an automated Time & Attendance system as using the old system was to much work to process at the end of each week. We have complex shift patterns and we needed the new system to make our life easier.”

PFE installed Tensor’s WinTA system after seing how it handled complex for patterns at Gatwick airport. Initially at 2 sites and extended it to a new factory 3 years ago. PFE have a Tensor Smart Card clocking station at each site, two of which also use the clocking station to control the factory hooters. Richard said
“there were no problems with the Tensor installation and the system did what we wanted straight of the shelf”. 

Richard and Geoff Carter, the IT Systems Manager attended a 2 day course at at Tensor’s Hail Weston
Training Centre. “After we set up some shifts and finished our training we found it easy to use. The system is mostly used personnel and departmental managers and supervisors to check employee holidays, sickness and timekeeping.” Explained Geoff Carter. PFE have also installed Tensor’s Personnel Package.

Richard says“the best thing about the system is how it copes with complex shift patterns and shift premiums. When we looked for a system we could not believe the Tensor system could do it that easy”.


The system has made every single payday in seven years including one where they thought they had accidentally lost all clocking for a day. However, PFE called the Tensor Helpdesk who talked them through the process of getting the clockings back and
“got them out of jail”.
