Biometric identification systems are becoming increasingly popular for school security

Biometric identification systems are becoming increasingly popular in providing reassurance and comfort to the education sector across the UK, an expert report has recently revealed.

Ofsted guidelines clearly state that all schools should provide a safer environment as best practice including securing the perimeter of the school to prevent unauthorised access, while Ofsted inspectors also require documentary evidence of attendance and punctuality as part of their inspections whilst their 2015 ‘Safeguarding in Schools: Best Practice Report’ also highlighted the importance of monitoring visitors and volunteers as part of their overall security system.

Biometric fingerprint readers are becoming increasingly popular, with an estimated 40% of schools in 2014 using biometric technology, not only for access control but also for a range of day-to-day tasks including registration, library borrowing and catering arrangements. Fingerprint scanners at meal times are more efficient, and discrete when it comes to eligibility for free meals, than card systems whilst also replacing the danger of stolen or borrowed cards for site access. Moreover they provide school staff with real time data, controlling access to certain areas and removing continuous costs of replacement cards.

Tensor Biometric Access Control Systems – enhanced security and peace of mind for the educational sector

Tensor Biometric Access Control Solutions deliver improved security, lower operational costs and superior convenience for our customers. We achieve this by using the most advanced and innovative portfolio of technologies, products and solutions available on the market.

ievo biometric fingerprint readers use advanced imaging technologies to capture a highly accurate reading of a fingerprint data. Providing a quick, simple and cost effective solution, the recognition devices can be used for deploying a highly secure and reliable Biometric Access Control or Biometric Time and Attendance system.

The ievo range offers a choice of two fingerprint readers, namely the ievo ultimate™, certified for Government use in the UK by the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI), a robust reader for both internal and external use that’s ideal for high-footfall sites that can be subjected to extreme weather conditions, such as construction sites, airports, hospitals, etc., and the ievo micro™, designed strictly for indoor use, provides an affordable biometric solution to installations that do not demand the full range of benefits that the ievo ultimate offers, such as offices, housing developments, commercial outlets and personal home use.

Both fingerprint readers seamlessly integrate into the Tensor WinAC.NET Access Control and the Tensor WinTA.NET Time and Attendance platforms. The ievo registration software package has been fully integrated into the Tensor.NET platform, meaning that existing and prospective customers will not require a separate software application for fingerprint enrolment.
