The ANPR cameras’ market is set to record a very strong level of growth until 2022 as the range of applications for this technology has increased significantly over the past couple of years, a recent market research report from IHS Markit has been able to suggest.
For example, speed enforcement devices can now offer a variety of functions beyond license plate reading and include such things as seatbelt detection in vehicles and helmet detection for motorcyclists. Detection of dangerous driving, which can tell whether a car is tailgating an emergency vehicle or whether it is driving between two lanes of traffic, is another important add-on feature enabled by analytics powered with artificial intelligence (AI).
Red light enforcement is another key ANPR application that has benefitted greatly from advances in analytics. Traditionally there was a need for two separate devices to be deployed in one location – one to read the license plate of the car and another to record the red light. However, modern devices with improved analytics are increasingly able to perform both tasks with a single device, which helps lower system cost and speed up the ticket processing for violations.
ANPR devices are now more likely to have analytics deployed on the camera. They do not require back-office processing software to perform their functions, which reduces the overall system set-up costs and lowers adoption barriers across many industries. Processing power improvements have also allowed ANPR devices to become much more compact, further simplifying installation.
Advances in video analytics have had a big impact on modern ANPR solutions, which has led to increasing adoption in access control and parking applications, including at hotels, hospitals and airports. These advances allow hotel chains, for example, to offer free parking to their guests at all associated hotels, not just the one where the guest is booked for their stay.
TENSOR – EXPERTS IN DESIGNING AND DEPLOYING SECURE AND RELIABLE AUTOMATED LICENCE PLATE RECOGNITION SYSTEMS
Tensor has an extensive experience in installing CCTV systems and commissioning comprehensive video management solutions for large multi-site facilities, and can also fully integrate video surveillance into other security systems including ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), Access Control and Facial Recognition.
Whilst CCTV systems are an effective crime deterrent and can provide recorded video footage for post event analysis or evidence, the benefit to your business is enhanced through real-time remote monitoring of your CCTV system – providing extra eyes during an event and response through live audio, to challenge potential intruders as well as recording the situation.
Tensor’s Project Managers and Integration Engineers, all of which have a background in the security industry, professional engineering, IT and integration, defence electronics and the armed forces work to the highest standards to ensure that solutions achieve the required functionality, within budget, and are well implemented.
