All UK employers are required, under a strict civil penalty regime, to do their best in order to prevent the hire of illegal workers, and it seems that the Government is now considering a new set of proposals aimed at strengthening and simplifying the system.
Avoid costly civil penalties by setting strict right to work checks
According to a report by BusinessMatters, the proposals set out by the UK Government include increasing the maximum civil penalty fine for employers from the current £10,000 to £20,000 per illegal worker.
Additional provisions include the closing of all available legislation loopholes, but also the removal of annual checks, making life a little easier for the already over-burdened HR departments. Other proposals aim to redefine the current mitigating factors for an employer caught illegally employing a worker.
Implementing a system that would enable a thorough and complete level of control over the employees’ specific rights to work is an extremely important measure to be taken by any company, and this is specifically where Tensor plc can put its extensive experience to very good use.
The Tensor Personnel system, an integral part of all of Tensor’s Time and Attendance and Access Control systems, allows you to record a vast amount of personal information about your company staff. Details such as work permit details, employment details, qualifications, CRB Check Results, educational history and much more can be easily stored and accessed. In this way, HR departments can constantly check the employee’s right to work and avoid any costly penalties.
