Biometric access control and badging systems to be deployed at airport
New biometric access control and badging systems are set to be deployed at Chennai Airport as part of the Airport Authority of India’s initiative to deal with identity-related security breaches, a news report has revealed.
The biometric access control system is set to be deployed as of next year and would manage employee access throughout the airport while preventing unauthorised staff or visitors from gaining access to restricted areas.
While airport security is currently handled by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, who manually check staff’s identity cards, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security plans to remove all these manual checks and provide its personnel with a secure contactless card, which will have a biometric template for multi-factor authentication. This system can use eye pupils or fingerprints for biometric access.
The contactless card will be fool-proof and nearly impossible to replicate, thereby putting in place a mechanism to monitor or control movements of personnel and vehicles into the airport. The doors and access points can be accessed only by authorised personnel after they have been identified by the system.
Furthermore, all successful or unsuccessful attempts will be recorded in the database for further future investigation.
Tensor Biometric Access Control Systems – superior security for any environment
Biometric technology uses human physical attributes as locks and keys, making it particularly suitable for access control systems on the buildings of large organisations. Using biometrics for security and identification requires meeting two challenges: they must be cheap enough and sufficiently simple to be used by ordinary users. Furthermore, for enhanced security, these biometric access control systems should combine two or more types of authentication, such as coupling fingerprints with key codes or passwords to provide greater trust that who is logging in is only who is expected to do so.
Tensor Plc, the UK’s number one manufacturer and installer of time and attendance and access control systems, supplies a range of top-range, reliable and affordable biometric access control systems based on Smart Card electronics combined with a biometric fingerprint reader.
In an elegant case and easy to use, this product is for those who want the absolute peace-of-mind, certainty and the assurance that only the right people can gain access to your sensitive or dangerous areas.
