Biometric access control systems now targeting the luxury home segment


Biometric access control is traditionally associated to the security, corporate and research environments, where making sure that only authorized members of staff are allowed to access specific areas is of utmost importance. Nevertheless, it seems that this high-security technology might be heading towards another important segment – luxury homes.

US residential developer Troon Pacific has recently put on the market Residence 2680 – a four bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms luxury home intended for a single family. It features high energy standards and high tech features, ringing in with a listing price of $13 million.

Greg Malin, CEO of Troon Pacific explains the thinking behind this mega-home: “We’ve taken our focus on what we’re calling ‘Urbane Wellness’ to the next level with Residence 2680. Thoughtful components such as maximized use of natural light, organic gardens, aromatherapy in the steam room and light and heat control sensors allow for enhanced natural living patterns and personal wellness sensibilities.”

Along with a 46’’ multi-touch display that can be used for TV and internet, automated climate control and a hidden mirror television, Residence 2680 also features a biometric entry system, which makes access to the house much easier for authorized people.

Beside scanning one’s fingerprint, the latter models also support a wide variety of smart cards, including here HID Prox™, HID iClass™, MiFare™, and DesFire™ cards. The biometric access control units are IP enabled, using an Ethernet 10/100Mb for connecting to a central control unit.
