British small and medium manufacturers continue strong growth trend, study reveals

British small and medium-sized (SME) manufacturers have continued to grow in the three months to July, but were slightly affected by a lower level of performance in terms of exports, a recent news report has been able to reveal.

The survey of 408 companies reported steady growth in new domestic orders over the quarter and a rise in output in line with expectations. However, new export orders fell, having been broadly flat for the previous two quarters.

Out of all the companies participating in the survey, 32% of small & medium sized enterprise (SME) manufacturers said they were more optimistic while 30% said their volume of output was up.

Data from the survey also revealed that 30% of small manufacturers are employing more people than three months ago, while the balance for employment expectations over the next three months is also +17%.
