Co-operative Group opens £22m Derbyshire hub, creates 300 new jobs

The Co-operative Group has just officially opened its £22m distribution centre in Castlewood, Derbyshire, also creating around 300 jobs in the process, a news report reveals.

As the company informs us, their new 480,000 sq ft depot will service more than 500 Co-op food stores in Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, through more than 3,600 deliveries per week. These will be achieved with the help of the 273-strong vehicle fleet, which will deliver more than one million cases per week.

The Co-op received more than 2,200 applications for the 300 warehouse and transport jobs, Co-op Food chief executive Steve Murrells revealed. He also said that: "This investment in Castlewood is the final piece in the jigsaw for our logistics operation following a period of phenomenal change. The massive investment in systems, facilities and people has resulted in a better working environment, increased efficiencies and productivity across our entire logistics operation, servicing more than 2,800 stores across the UK."
