Council surveillance system helps police make more than 400 arrests

A local council’s CCTV system has managed to help the local police officers make more than 400 arrests over the course of 2013, a news report in the local media was able to reveal.

Thanet Council has a team of six operators who work in shifts to ensure that the CCTV system’s control room is manned at all times throughout the year. The system is directly connected to the Margate Police Station and handles approximately 11 incidents a day across the isle.

There are 95 cameras across Thanet covering predominantly the high streets and town centres and other busy areas.
