CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development, has urged employers, policymakers and education providers alike to establish closer bonds in order to tackle the growing problem of youth unemployment.

A recent report drawn up by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development was able to reveal that close to 40 percent of employers now offer young people some form of work experience scheme, with 37% increasing work experience opportunities in the past 12 months.

Data published by the CIPD also suggested that employers are increasingly engaging with local schools and colleges, with more than one-third (35%) doing so in the past year, up from 29% two years ago.

Furthermore, the number of apprenticeships is also growing steadily, with employers now offering over half a million apprenticeships – more than double the figure from 2012. A further 14% of employers also say they plan to introduce them in the next year.
