Flexible working is increasingly popular across public and private organizations, survey finds

Flexitime

Flexible working is becoming increasingly popular across all sizes and types of organisation, both public and private, a recent survey has been able to reveal. The research has also revealed that flexible working arrangements are a key differentiator during the recruitment process, with 70% of organisations stating that it influenced whether or not a candidate accepted a job offer.

In fact, 86% of organisations reported an increase in request for flexible working during the recruitment process, with reasons given for requesting flexible working including family commitments (universally popular), followed by reducing long distance travel or commute, and time for study/external education.

The survey, which was conducted between October 2016 and February 2017, also found that part-time working is still the most popular form of flexible working (offered by 97% of those surveyed that do offer flexible working options), followed by flexitime (offered by 84%) and compressed hours (offered by 77%).

Furthermore, while 85% of organisations were offering some form of flexible working, nearly a third of those that were not (28%) were looking to review the situation within six months.

Tensor Time and Attendance System offers extensive options for the management of flexible working hours

Tensor plc supplies an extensive range of workforce management solutions that cater for all the requirements of the modern workplace, including flexible working.

The system can supply working rules for a variety of purposes, from simple determination of overtime by the number of daily hours worked, to the more complex payment of overtime hours adjusted when periodic targets are not met. The system also contains special rules to accommodate the formal flexitime contracts worked by many public sector employees. Workers paid on an annual contract basis can receive reports stating how many contracted hours they have yet to work.

Additionally, our top-range WinTA suite features an On-line Self Service module that allows staff to clock IN or OUT, check hours, request leave + other functions via internet, mobile or other communications.

Furthermore, with the Telephone Clocking module, staff can call in from remote locations to clock IN or OUT or review their flexitime balance or remaining holiday entitlement. After entry of their pass code, an automated, spoken menu guides employees to the option they require.
