Global biometrics market to record transformational year in 2015, report suggests
The biometrics segment is set to record a transformational year in 2015, recent research from Frost & Sullivan seems to suggest, with the consultancy predicting a “significant growth in both public and commercial applications” of the technology.
The report uses 2014 as a base year and points out that fingerprint scanning was the dominant modality in that time frame, but also reveals that this is changing; Frost & Sullivan predicts that other modalities including face, finger vein, and palm scanners are going to be on the rise in 2015.
The report points to emerging opportunities in the finance, retail, and healthcare sectors, as well as nascent appetites for the technology in gaming, education, and hospitality. Industrial, IT, and telecommunications verticals remain important. And in terms of regional differences, North America and Europe are predicted to stand out, “with the larger regions generating 74 percent of global revenue due to government adoption.”
