The HMP Grampian in Peterhead, a new prison complex built to replace a couple of old facilities located in two nearby towns, is finally open, providing enough capacity for about 500 inmates, as a media news report on this topic has recently revealed.
The new prison facility replaces the old jail in Peterhead, as well as the Craiginches prison in Aberdeen, and is the first Scottish prison to incorporate three different prisoner categories (adult males, young offenders and female prisoners) on one site.
The HMP Grampian will also have a dedicated unit for training prisoners for a return to work when they are released, set to include a telephone marketing centre.
