New HSBC report predicts strong increase in SME’s fixed investments

Small and medium businesses across the UK are likely to bolster their investments in physical assets including machinery, premises and stock, as a direct result of a new climate of growth, HSBC’s latest market report has revealed.

The paper, called Business of Growth, highlights the upwards revision of all UK economic indexes, the perfect backdrop for solid investment in fixed assets.

It also indicates that UK SMEs will invest 7.1 per cent more in fixed assets in 2014, a figure that has been revised significantly upwards in recent months (back in March 2013, forecasts for fixed investment stood at just 4.7 per cent for 2014).

“Ambitious British businesses are saying they are going to invest this year and get on with growing. We want to support their ambitions by significantly increasing our net lending to businesses this year,” said Amanda Murphy, Head of Business Banking for HSBC.

“Business growth will come from all of our regions and by breaking down funds to a very local level we are confident we can help make a real difference. We have put the funds into the hands of our local relationship managers to empower them to identify and work with ambitious companies in their area.”
