Open prison inmates could play a major role in community cleaning programmes
Boston Borough’s Operation Fly Swat team cleaned up 199 dumping sites in the period from July through to the end of September, a news report in the local media has revealed.
The workers managed to clean up rubbish that had been tipped at 53 locations at the side of roads, 69 on footpaths, alleys and bridleways, 32 beside water courses and eight on farm land.
The team in charge of the cleaning process is formed largely out of inmates from HM Prison North Sea Camp, an Category D men’s open prison, located on the edge of the parish of Freiston in Lincolnshire, England.
