Pan-European certification for security products would benefit the UK manufacturers, says the BSIA

Pan-European certification for security and access control products would not only raise standards throughout the entire European Union, but would also boost sales for UK-based equipment manufacturers, UK industry experts recently revealed.

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) believes that the requirement of a different certification for every single European market is counter-productive and, in fact, prevents UK firms from further boosting their exports.

“A uniform testing process could be achieved by introducing pan-European certification, which would provide a one-stop shop for all quality marks across the continent. This would mean that security products exported would be assessed against requirements shared by all EU countries, therefore dramatically improving the quality of products entering the market and reducing the confusion surrounding which tests are needed for each country,” said Alex Carmichael, technical and export director at the BSIA.
