Pret A Manger set to create 500 new jobs across the UK after profit hike

After recording a very successful year, with sales figures rising by 17% up to £443m, fresh food chain Pret A Manger has decided to use the money wisely and further extend its business, the company planning to create an impressive 500 new jobs in the UK.

According to a news report, these jobs only represent around 50% of the company's future development plans, with Pret A Manger actually planning to create a total of 1000 new jobs across its whole network. The company, which has also expanded to Hong Kong, Paris and the US, has 320 stores and plans to open an additional 50.

However, the company is likely to come under pressure to ensure most of the jobs go to British workers after facing criticism in the past that it was favouring foreign staff. Nevertheless, company representatives have revealed that 20% of workers are now from the UK, compared with 17% a year earlier.

In order to promote their available positions to UK residents, a school-leavers' programme has been launched and will be extended across the country, with the aim of information being sent to every pupil leaving school this year.
