The study was conducted by researchers at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China and revealed that shift workers were 9% more likely to have type 2 diabetes. Data obtained from the study also points out that, in men, the figure was 35% and for people who swapped between day and night shifts, the risk increased by a worrying 42%.

Companies with staff working rotating shifts could help promote a healthy lifestyle by providing nutrition and wellbeing advice and services. They could also improve the worker’s health by thoroughly managing their shifts and rotas, but in order to do so, they require the implementation of a very solid and reliable time and attendance system featuring extensive shift planning features.
