Slow adoption of open architectures in access control is still a problem, experts argue

The paper argues that a growing number of end users want to be able to integrate their access control technology with other security systems. While many manufacturers still rely on proprietary protocols and technologies, other organizations have joined forces in an effort to transition to open standards, with the most significant progress being found with Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP), intended to create interoperability between peripheral devices, such as card readers and control panels, as well as other security systems.
