Tensor Proudly Supports Project to Install a Life-Saving Defibrillator at Hail Weston Village Hall

As part of Tensor’s commitment to support our local community in Hail Weston, Cambridgeshire, we have made a significant donation towards the purchase of a life-saving defibrillator (and associated basic CPR training) that will be installed in the local Village Hall to ensure optimum accessibility for local residents and Tensor staff working at our Hail Weston House and Hail Weston Springs sites.

Multiple studies have shown that early CPR together with access to a defibrillator greatly increased survival rates for people suffering cardiac arrest, therefore access to such facilities especially in rural communities like Hail Weston could provide significant benefits.

A defibrillator is a very safe and easy to use electronic device, designed to be used by a layperson. It automatically reads the heart rhythm of someone who may have suffered a cardiac arrest and diagnoses if an electrical shock is required to restore a normal heart rhythm.

The device uses voice prompts and illustrations to give step by step guidance and, as such, it is impossible to give a shock to the heart of someone who does not need one. Anyone can use a defibrillator however in most cases access to the defibrillator is controlled by the ambulance service and users will be under instruction by telephone throughout the process.

The Hail Weston Community Plan’s Crime and Safety topic team are well on their way to raising the £2,500 required to install the machine at the village hall and promote the project, which is supported by over 70% of residents.

Beside the generous donation received from Tensor Plc., the largest local employer, and support from other local businesses, the team will also organize a number of Community Fund Raising Events that will include demonstrations of a defibrillator and free health checks by East of England Ambulance paramedics. A crowd funding Internet page for online donations has also been setup and is available here.

Nigel Smith, Chairman of Tensor plc, said “As part of our Tensor in the Community programme we are pleased to support the residents of Hail Weston, who have really embraced the need for this unit. We are proud that on this occasion we were able to support the purchase of this potentially life-saving piece of equipment.”
