Personnel exodus could potentially affect manning levels over Christmas

A dramatic fall in the number of senior nurses across the NHS could have serious consequences on the service’s manning levels over the Christmas period, a recent media news report on the matter was able to reveal.

The number of senior nurses has fallen by almost 3,400 since 2010, from 66,832 to 63,458 in 2014 and up to 1,800 nurses of all grades are said to have left the profession in the past two months alone, official figures were able to reveal.

This trend is particularly concerning as attendances at A&E are up 5 per cent on the equivalent period last year, and during one week in November, 108,301 patients were admitted to hospital, an all-time high for a single week.

Howard Catton, head of policy at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said the body was “deeply concerned about the skills and experience that the NHS is losing”.

“Cutting senior nursing posts means that the NHS has lost vital experience and knowledge, built up over many years, at a time when it needs it more than ever,” he said.

Tensor Time and Attendance system helps manage all aspects of absenteeism

Tensor’s WinTA clocking and time and attendance systems deal with all aspects of worker absenteeism, including email warnings when manning levels are low.

Manning levels in WinTA.NET are based upon employee skills required during the working week. Any shortfalls to the expected requirement, due to absenteeism for example, can trigger a system email.

Both the WinTA Lite and WinTA Enterprise time and attendance systems can be integrated with Personnel Software which offers features that will save time and aid strategic planning, especially in emergency situations (strikes, natural disasters, etc.).

Mobile or wireless technology based time & attendance for employers from Tensor ensures an organization is kept up to date with who is missing at the workplace. WinTA.NET is a proactive system that keeps managers abreast of events. It does this by automatically emailing or SMS text messaging both employees and system users on various issues.
