Shift sharing used by Unity mine workers to stop job losses

Management and union officials from the Unity Mine in Cwmgwrach in the Vale of Neath, Wales, have managed to work together in order to create a "rota system" designed to prevent major job loses.

As a news report in the media has revealed, due to a fall in the price of coal and reduced demand, mine workers feared that around 150 jobs from the total 226 workforce were in danger of being made redundant.

And in order to mitigate this problem and save as many jobs as possible, the workers agreed that work will now be shared out between all 226 workers on a rota basis.
