Streamline Your Fire Evacuation Procedures with a Tensor Fire Roll Call System

Fire evacuation procedures that are clearly defined, implemented and followed are a must for any organization, especially those housing a very large number of people whose movements are impaired — such as NHS Trusts. However, according to a news report into this matter, the situation at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is far from this ideal, with insider whistleblowers describing the fire evacuation procedures as 'chaotic and confusing'.

According to the report, there are no designated fire wardens and it is left to individual nurses to lead patients to safety and says the policy is not fit for a hospital of that size.

One employee said: "The safety procedures are not suitable for a hospital of that size.

"It's very confusing and staff are doing different things.

"On every occasion when a fire alarm sounds, I have seen staff, management and porters sitting in the atrium eating their lunch as if nothing is going on while patients are walking around in every direction.

"At the moment when we are evacuated, we have to phone our boss to tell them we are outside.

A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said nominated staff — including Facilities Managers — form part of a 24/7 response team, who are responsible for evacuations. However, she said the employee's concerns would be raised with facilities staff and fire officers.

Reports can be grouped by a cardholder's default resident fire point or by the fire point that they are currently booked on to. Printers are connected either via a direct cable connection or by direct IP and can be limited to reporting upon specific zones or fire points.

Muster points can also be installed where cardholders scan upon arrival at a Muster point. In real-time, Tensor.NET Access removes the cardholder from the fire roll-call report to provide a real-time roll call of any cardholders who remain in the building.
