Spanish power company Iberdrola has declared that it will invest about £2.7 billion in Scottish businesses over the next two years. A fire which is believed to have begun accidentally ravaged Merthyr Tydfil Football Club’s changing room. The blaze damaged the building – which was empty – used by the stalwart Wales side, which had to move out of the British Gas Southern League after HM Revenue and Customs had issued a winding up order against the club, which had debts of about £315,000. Three local fire crews were called to the ground on Sunday morning and the fire was contained to the two-storey room. The club has had electricity to its ground cut over unpaid bills. A new marine project is hoped to initiate a jobs boom in the sector, centred around Bangor University. The number of Scottish people who re-offended within two years of a conviction has reached its highest level in a decade, state the most recent figures. The Scottish Parliament recently passed proposals which will phase out jail sentences of three months or less in favour of tougher community sentences. The Police Federation has warned that the fight against crime will undoubtedly suffer following the drastic autumn spending reductions. Thirty firefighters were needed over the course of a night to tackle a fierce blaze at the Linamar car parts factory.
