Time and attendance software can help identify and mitigate SME staff burnout

Reporting

Time and attendance software could be used to help managers identify and mitigate the risk of burnout among SME staff, which represent an estimate 3/5 of the UK’s total workforce, according to recent research.

Described as a type of stress, office burnout can manifest itself as a state of physical, emotional or mental exhaustion combined with doubts about one’s competence and the value of their work.

According to research by AXA PPP healthcare, 47% of employees in SMEs across the UK said they regularly work 4 or more hours of overtime per week, while 27% if these put in 7 or more hours.

Additionally, 22% of employees take fewer than 30 minutes for lunch, while 19% have cancelled family time and 19% have missed a child’s event such as a school play and for parents with younger children due to working over and above their contracted hours.

“Small and medium sized businesses are the backbone of the economy – driving innovation, enterprise and growth,” comments Dr Gary Bolger, Chief Medical Officer at AXA PPP healthcare. “Their commitment is commendable yet our study shows that owners and bosses may be putting themselves and their employees at increased risk of burnout and ill health through protracted overwork.”

Tensor time and attendance software provides the right tools to help managers in SMEs identify and mitigate staff burnout

Tensor plc supplies an extensive range of solutions designed specifically to help employers thoroughly monitor and manage absence, with our flagship WinTA.NET integrated workforce management solution incorporating a dedicated Absence Planning and Entitlement Management feature.

Our comprehensive, yet user-friendly software comes pre-loaded with graphical calendar charts that provide a colourful way of viewing an individual’s or a department’s absence records.

Each employee can be allocated different entitlements for absence such as annual leave or allowed sickness. As absence is booked and taken, the remainder available for each entitlement is updated. Entitlement formulae are used to calculate more complex entitlements calculated on a rising scale based upon length of service.

WinTA.NET supplies the relevant managers with information on employee’s absences through warning email notifications or via hardcopy reports. After that, the system would rapidly identify missing employees that are expected to be at work and then informs you via automatic email reporting reports distributed by email.
